7 Home Remedies to alleviate gum pain
Do you experience severe pain in your gums when you eat and drink?
Such painful gums are a warning signal of various dental complications like canker sores, gingivitis and other periodontal diseases. Otherwise, it occurs due to bacterial build-up, brushing or flossing too hard, wearing dental appliances like dentures & braces.
In case of women, gum pain is caused due to hormonal changes and other natural conditions like menopause, periods, pregnancy that are associated with their health.
Visit your Dentist when you see redness or inflammation followed by the gum pain. In contrast, you did not encounter any conflicts in your gum except the pain even though it is prolonged, the following remedies will help you to alleviate the gum pain.
1. Saltwater Rinse
We hope that you may know about this. This is one of the simple and effective remedies for various oral complications like tooth decay, etc.
Take a cup of water and boil it for few minutes at moderate temperature. Then add a teaspoon of salt in it and stir it well. Swish your mouth with the mixture for a few minutes and spit it out.
Salt is efficient to neutralize the pH of our mouth by subsiding the acids and decrease the bacteria present in the mouth. This approach will minimize the pain in your gums.
2. Apply Teabags
Similar to preparing tea by soaking the teabags in hot water, drown a teabag in hot water for a few minutes. Then apply or massage the painful gums with it for at least five minutes.
If you have swelling gums, this approach will soothe the inflamed gums as well as reducing pain.
Tea powder is rich in astringent tannins. Hence you can prefer tea powder like green tea, black tea or other you like.
3. Lemon Juice
Citric acid present in lemon contains antimicrobial compounds which are powerful to kill the germs and other microbes exist in our mouth.
Take a teaspoon of lemon juice (without adding sugar) and mix it with a cup of warm water. Use this solution to rinse your mouth for 5 minutes. You can do this in morning and night before going to bed.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar – A variety of vinegar that is available in Departmental Stores and online stores is packed with a lot of natural compounds to benefit your health.
It contains acids that are rich in organic compounds. Similar to the saltwater solution, acids present in this vinegar can neutralize the mouth’s pH by alleviating the acids produced by oral bacteria.
5. Prepare a paste
Certain ingredients we add in our food are competent to deploy as medications. You can simply get a cure for gum pain with components like turmeric, ginger and others. Some of them are listed as follows:
- Take a teaspoon of baking soda and a little amount of turmeric powder. Mix these components and use the mixture to massage your gums. You can use this mixture to brush your teeth.
- Take a small piece of ginger. Prepare a paste with the ginger by rumple and mash it and then add a half teaspoon of salt. Apply this paste on your gums and leave it for 15 minutes. Then wash your mouth.
- Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder along with a half teaspoon of salt and mustard oil at the same level. Mix all these components to prepare a paste. Apply it on the gum lines and leave it for few minutes. The antimicrobial components present in the turmeric will wipe out the bacteria that induces pain in your gums.
6. Aloe Vera Leaves
The white gel present in aloe vera leaves contains anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties. Thus the aloe vera gel can eradicate the bacteria and reduce pain and inflammation in gums.
Take an aloe vera leaf and extract the gel present. Apply the gel on your gums for a few minutes. You can do this twice a day.
7. Heat or Cold Compress
Exposing the painful gums to heat or cold temperature by gently massaging will drastically reduce the gum pain.
Take a little amount of water and heat it at a mild temperature. Soak a cloth in the warm water and crush it to remove the water. Now apply the wet cloth on your facial region where you encounter gum pain.
Ice cubes are also helpful to reduce pain in gums. Similar to heat compress, take an ice cube and worn it in a cloth. Gently apply this on your face around the painful gum region.
The things described above are not permanent solutions but they will help you to get relief from gum pain. If the pain exists for a long time without any clear reason, you should need a dental visit.
