What are dental bridges?

Dental bridges are the teeth replacement appliance consists of a pontic (false tooth) with crowns on both sides of the fake tooth. The healthy teeth on both sides of the missing tooth serve as the pillars of the bridge as they render support to fix the bridge. The tooth bridges are made up of porcelain, ceramic, gold. In certain cases, gold is fused with the metal to produce bridges.

What are the advantages of dental bridges?

Teeth bridges are the optimum and inexpensive solution to fix missing teeth.

Apart from addressing the teeth lost due to gum diseases, decay or other physical injuries, it can restore the natural strength to bring back the chewing ability. This in turn, prevents the teeth drifting from their position and retard the jaw bone loss that alters the facial appearance,

Will the bridged teeth appear natural?

Yes. Porcelain, Zirconia or Ceramic are actually tooth-colored substances. Teeth bridges made with those materials are strong and look natural.

If you prefer a gold bridge, it will be noticeable. Porcelain fused with gold metal also looks like a natural tooth.

How does a dental bridge restore the missing teeth?

Getting a dental bridge needs 2 to 3 dental visits. The tooth next to the missing teeth should have sufficient bone health to anchor bridges. Bone health and gums are checked with dental X-rays.

Then the preparatory work of shaving or make space over the teeth and the shade for the bridge is noted. The impression of the teeth is taken to mould the bridge with appropriate materials based on the missing teeth position and degree of the issue.

When the bridge is fabricated, it is cemented by crowning the prepared teeth with caps attached with the bridge.

Are there different types of dental bridges?

Yes. You can get a diverse range of teeth bridges from a dentist. Depending on the number of teeth lost and health of the neighboring teeth, your dentist will prescribe the right one.

Can I remove my teeth bridge after it is placed?

No. The tooth bridge is a fixed dental restorative appliance. You cannot take out or remove when you want. If you need a removable prosthetic device, you can choose partial dentures.

Can I restore up to three teeth in any configuration?

No. With a dental bridge, you can replace only a single missing tooth or maximum 3 teeth that are missing in a sequence.

How do I care for my teeth bridges?

Besides regular brushing and flossing, you should keep the area under the false tooth tidy. The toothbrush bristles and flossing wire are not adequate to do that. Special equipment like bridge needle is necessary to clean the bridge. You can get it from your Dentist.

Is there any alternative to bridges?

You can restore the missing teeth with partial dentures, the combination of crowns and dental implants.
