Pediatric Dentistry Patient Testimonial
Sumithra is a 6-year-old child studying first standard in a Private School. Her father brought her to Sendhil Dental Clinic a few months ago. He told that one of her front teeth appeared black in color and added that her daughter was experiencing intense pain with the tooth.
Dr. Sendhilnathan checked the affected tooth and inquired the child regarding pain in the tooth. She replied that she felt pain and sensitivity in teeth while eating ice creams, drink coffee, water and at times when exposed to air. The Doctor confirmed that it was a dental cavity and the infection has reached the innermost layers of the tooth.
He asked the girl’s father whether to extract the teeth or preserve it with a minor surgical procedure. Her father did not like to extract the tooth and agreed to the second option.
Then the Doctor got ready to do Root Canal Therapy that is the minor surgery suggested by him. It involves drilling a tooth and evacuate the infected layers inside. Once the affected layers are extracted, a custom made dental crown is fixed on the tooth to restore the natural appearance of the tooth.
The procedure begins with injecting anesthesia to make the patient numb for a while. When the kid saw anesthesia syringe and other dental needle accessories, she was frightened and started to cry. Along with her dad, the Doctor and other supporting staffs tried to convince her by telling it is painless and does not hurt her but it went to vain.
After seeing the girl’s anxiety, Dr.Sendhilnathan recommended sedation dental treatment to do Root Canal. He explained that it involved some medications that made the patient sleep and the dental procedures can be done without the patient’s knowledge.
Her father hesitated to undergo this because he thought that it might cause side effects but the Doctor replied “It is not hazardous. We are injecting sleep medications instead of anesthesia to make your daughter feel numb until the treatment gets over. Don’t worry.” After that, he conceded for sedation dental treatment. Then the treatment began by injecting sleep drugs to the girl. She cried for a few minutes and fell sleep. When the girl fell sleep, the Doctor and his team began the procedure. It got over within 30 minutes. The process of fabricating the cap made them to wait for hours and it was fixed on the treated tooth within 10 minutes.
When the girl awake, one of the Dentists in the clinic placed a mirror in front of her and asked her to smile. She smiled and surprised after looking at the white tooth and asked her dad, “When did they paint my tooth?“
The girl’s father had doubt on the Sedation treatment even after the treatment was completed. He questioned about the treatment again when they leave. Dr. Sendhil advised him not to worry and added that he assured that your girl would not encounter any affects because of the sedation treatment.
After a few weeks, the girl’s father communicated the Doctor via phone and said, “I feel happy and relaxed as the drugs injected her to sleep during treatment does not cause any effects. She seems happier after the treatment as she has retained her whitish smile after many days.“
Initially, the girl was embarrassed because of her black tooth that pushed her to suffer severe pain due to the infection. Now she is very delighted as she has preserved her teeth and got relief from discomforts which made her consume her favorite foods without any limitations.
